The hotel we stayed at
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The White Water Hotel, in Newby Bridge, Ulverston. When we arrived we went outside and just stood listening to the water rushing under the bridge. We could literally feel all our tension melting away. In fact, we loved this hotel so much, we went back a second time.
Our first time there, was just after our wedding. Before we went, we mentioned we were getting married. When we got to our room, our mouths fell open.
We walked in and on the bed there were two white towels made into two swans with the shape of a heart. Sprinkled around on the bed were rose petals. They even put chocolates in the room for us. This made us so happy we went to reception and thanked them.
We opened the curtains and the door unto the small balcony. Our first reaction was to go, wow! The view was magnificent.
You could see along the river which had beautiful trees on one side. Then the other way was a stone bridge which had water cascading over the rocks beneath. Just across from that were three little cottages.
We loved the sound of the water rushing by. We thought it may keep us awake at night. However, we found the opposite to be true. The sound was actually relaxing as was quietened a lot with the balcony door shut.
The staff were really helpful and the hotel was nice and clean. One evening, the bar manager was very accommodating and allowed us to have our meals in a different area to the restaurant as we couldn’t go to the bar downstairs called, The Dolly Blue. When we asked about the steam train ride, the receptionist said we could buy the tickets cheaper at the hotel reception. So we did.
Joined to the hotel via a walkway, there is a health club which includes, a small gym and heated swimming pool. Next to the pool is a jacuzzi, a steam room and sauna. If you want to have somewhere to relax and chill out, then this is the place. We both loved it so much, we went there every evening after our days out.
One thing that's definitely worth a mention is the food. We had a meal in the restaurant on the first evening. They have a professional chef and the food is to die for. It's out of this world. The meat is so tender it just falls off the bone. It was so good, we had a meal every evening we were there.
The first time we stayed at the hotel, they had a cheesecake on the menu. When Debbie had this, she wanted the same desert every night. (Ian did too. Ha!) Sadly, the second time we stayed at the hotel, the cheesecake was not on the menu. Maybe it will be back again next time.
Dog friendly
If you want somewhere to stay and bring your dog, then there are rooms available for you and your four legged friend. There are plenty of nice places to walk your dog. You can even take your dog on the steam train rides nearby.
