Butterfly World
On their website, they report there are more than one hundred varieties. The air is filled with them. Some even land on you. We were nervous about that at first. But it's absolutely fine. They are such gentle creatures.
Butterfly World is definitely a place you want to see. Ian has been there twice. The last time, my wife and I went together.
What you'll love about this place is that the butterflies fly all around you. When we walked in, Debbie went wow. She wants to go again.
Make sure you don't go in with your coat on or heavy clothes. It's very hot inside. Makes sense, of course. The butterflies are all tropical and prefer the heat.
As you walk around there are lots of leaves and some really beautiful flowers. The butterflies love these and you can see them sitting on leaves and flowers all around you. Just like this fella.
There is also a waterfall feature. It falls into the water below, which is like a man-made stream.
In the water there are lots of large fish. These are Koi Carp. There are loads of them. They keep coming to the surface and opening their little mouths for air.
Some of the butterflies are harder to spot at first. They are almost camouflaged from the surroundings. The one in the left photo was particularly hard to spot. The wings are mainly clear so the background shows through the wings.
They are all quite beautiful. Many different sizes and colours.
When we made our way round to the other side, Debbie took the photo on the right. This was the view of the stream and waterfall behind.
As you can see, the fish are quite large. Just a few here. However, a lot more fish are at the other end, near the waterfall.
Even though they are good at hiding, there are also a few pheasants in there. We eventually found them hiding on some foliage near the door to the next area.
When you go through the door, you come to where they have other creatures and animals. You'll find lizards, snakes and spiders. Don't worry. They are behind glass.
Just along from there, you come to a larger area where they keep the meerkats. They are funny to watch.
When you come out of the butterfly house, there is still more to see.
Just down the path, there is Preston Park where there is also a museum to explore. There is also a tea shop inside if you fancy a drink.
If you bring children with you, you'll also find a children's activity area near by.
Then if you fancy a nice walk down by the river, just follow the path. You'll find it to the right of the museum.
We loved this place so much, we are definitely going to go again.
